My Goal for The Deliberate Reader is:
- To inspire you to make the most of your reading time, however much that is.
- To share tips and suggestions for finding great books
- To review my latest reads, so you can decide if you’d like to read them too.
- To engage in discussions on books, the reading life, and life as a reader.
Will you join me as I make the most of my reading time?

I’m Sheila, and I love to read. In my life before kids I used to read hundreds of books a year. Now I have to work at it to read a book a week, unless you count board books and such, in which case I read thousands of books a year. They’re just the same 50 books over and over and over.
I’m a librarian by education and previous work experience, and one of my favorite jobs was as a bookseller in Texas. There isn’t much I like more than connecting people with a book they’ll love.
I enjoy both fiction and nonfiction, although my fiction reading has slowed down tremendously (see that earlier paragraph for the reason). I read mostly genre fiction (mysteries and fantasy) and some young adult historical fiction, but I do branch out beyond that occasionally.
In nonfiction I love biographies and memoirs, personal development, history, Christian living, and parenting books, but I don’t limit myself to those categories; I’m very willing to read about other topics if the writing is engaging.
I also love to try new recipes, so I adore looking at cookbooks and always have a few checked out from the library.
I welcome hearing from you, so please feel free to comment on posts, or send me an email at sheila(at)deliberatereader(dot)com.
